Listen To REDSHIFT For Free:

http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/redshiftus.htm

Listen closely to REDSHIFT'S guitarist, Gary Skopick, and you will hear a synthesis of all the great guitar work rock and roll has produced over the past 40 years.  There are shades of greats like Jimi Hendrix, Steve Ray Vaughan, Jeff Beck, Uli Jon Roth, Carlos Santana, Robin Trower, to name just a few.  Skopick thoroughly explores the sonic capabilities of his Les Paul with lightning speed and engaging harmonic complexity.

Skopick's guitar playing is exciting and noteworthy indeed.  However, that's not all there is to the aural experience that is REDSHIFT.  Listeners will notice the spectacular bass riffs and jazzy drum patterns which under-gird Skopick's stellar lead lines in the band's recordings now featured on their SoundClick website  http://www.soundclick.com/bands/6/redshiftus.htm

As you read the band's responses *.* to the CreatorsWeb interview you will note that REDSHIFT is currently undergoing a slight "shift" in personnel.  Heads up drummers.  This dynamic guitarist is looking for a percussionist.   It could be an exciting gig if you've got the chops.

We look forward to new REDSHIFT.

Music Style And Audience

How do you classify your music?

                   Original heavy Rock Fusion.

Do you target a specific audience?  If so, who?

Anyone who can appreciate guitar driven instrumentals.

What performance venues are you currently exploring?

None. The band is being reworked, and Gary is looking for a new drummer.

Musical Instruments - Recording - Computer Hardware - Software

What musical instruments do you play?

Gary plays Gibson Les Paul SG Custom guitars with triple pick-ups. He also just began playing bass guitar, and has a Fender Precision Bass. Gary uses a Digitech Legend guitar processor with effects pedal. Marshall 1959 Super-Plexi Reissue Amp and 4 x 25W cab.

Do you record in a home studio?

Yes! I (Jody) have learned home recording, techniques. Everything is recorded live, and it sounds better than previous studio recordings that we have made. I feel that I have more control over the mix. I like the instant gratification. Last week, Gary and a friend recorded three songs, and within a few minutes, I handed them each a mixed-down CD for them to listen to. I also design the covers, produce, burn, and hand out all our CD's myself.

What equipment and software do you use?

Cakewalk Pro Audio 9 through a Mackie mixer. This runs up to four inputs into my computer via a Delta 44.

Musical Background -Influences

How did you get started playing music?

Gary took guitar lessons as a teenager, from a jazz guitarist. He surpassed what his teacher could teach him, and quit to study by himself.

What has influenced your music the most?

Jimi Hendrix, Black Sabbath, Uli Jon Roth. Going to concerts, and listening to albums.

Music And Internet Marketing

How has the Internet effected you as a musician?

Realizing that there are more fans enjoying our music, besides the few who could come to live gigs. Now our music can be heard in over 40 different countries daily.

When did you start marketing your music on the Internet?

A former drummer set up our page on MP3.com, in 1999. I got a computer, to learn how to record the band's music. I soon took over all the band promotion on MP3.com, and branched out to other sites like Besonic and IUMA. Dozens of CD's have sold to fans all over the world, through MP3.com. The band has had numerous #1 songs, and many in the top ten on various genre charts on both MP3.com and Besonic. At onetime, the top 10 Progressive Rock songs in Chicago, were all Redshift songs.

What has been the most effective way to market your music on the Internet?

Networking with other musicians on MP3.com, and a group called Free Audio Player, that has a messageboard-based musician network.

Musicians And The Future

What does the future hold for you?

New songs. Trace Cronin, guitarist, and longtime friend, is playing bass guitar with Gary. There is something about a bass being played by a lead guitarist, that packs quite a punch.Gary is excited by the new possibilities. They hope to have a new CD out in January.

Finally, is there anything else you want to say about yourself?

I have met so many talented indie musicians over the past few years, by networking online. They have shown great support for Gary and the band. I think the feedback from his peers has made him a better musician.

Thanks, Jody
